The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is spreading inexorably around the world and efforts to stem the outbreak are growing more intense each day, as is the search for a vaccine which has become the common goal of the entire pharmaceutical industry. Humanity is facing a major challenge. All the efforts and work done by pharmaceutical professionals is now focused on a single goal - to find a vaccine against COVID-19.

Member companies of the Forum of International Research and Development Pharmaceutical Companies, EIG, and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) have joined the common efforts to find a vaccine and have issued a call for all stakeholders to step together and immediately adopt measures to help stem the pandemic and find solutions to prevent similar events in the future. The EFPIA has focused its efforts on three major areas:

1. Supplying necessary medicines to patients in need;

2. Supporting stakeholders in healthcare, national institutions, healthcare systems and organizations fighting against COVID-19;

3. Intensive development of vaccines, diagnostics and treatments to assist in the fight against COVID-19.

Representatives of the pharmaceutical industry have joined forces and bridged the divides more than ever before in order to develop and produce an effective vaccine against COVID-19 in the shortest possible time. Pharmaceutical companies and research institutions now publicly share our findings and results of studies and tests because that is what the current situation requires. But we also need to know that a new vaccine cannot be developed overnight. The process is complex and requires time.

We are continuing our regular cooperation with stakeholders in healthcare, national institutions and healthcare institutions and supplying the necessary medicines and medical devices to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus. We will keep doing so until we can develop an effective vaccine. Clinical research of the new vaccine is in full force. And as soon a vaccine against COVID-19 is approved, we will make sure it is made available to everybody.

This is our work, these are our commitments.
